Naked Whisky Pod Escape
Staying in a see through pod on the west coast of Scotland immersed in nature under the stars and next to our own loch for the evening surrounded by mountains, wildlife, great company and of course delicious whisky...
Now, I’m not trying to make anyone feel jealous with that description, but I don’t know if it can get any better than this.
This experience is a must for anybody wanting a different kind of escape, especially if you’re a lover of nature who would like the added touch of enjoying some whisky whilst immersed in the outdoors. For those of you who are more shy of the outdoors and elements, there’s the option of staying cosy in your pod and sharing that whisky with your friends or other half whilst still enjoying amazing views.
As I have followers worldwide, some of you are probably still thinking Naked Whisky, what? Does this mean being naked drinking whisky?! Well that’s definitely one option, and l would be lying if l said l have never done that before.
But no, I’m referring to enjoying a moment with one of my fave whisky brands Naked Grouse.
It was great for me that for this adventure l got to team up with Naked Grouse Whisky, a brand that go hand in hand with what I’m all about as a human being.
Before l get into the details of what l got up to, let’s chat the whisky. Launched in 2011 as a blended Scotch matured in first-fill sherry casks then finished in first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts for a further six months, based around malt whisky from Highland Park, Glenturret and Macallan, this blended malt is said to have notes of cocoa, oak, fudge, cooked apples and cherries.
This whisky creation can be enjoyed on its own or with a cherry cola without diminishing the taste, but what l love about the brand NAKED is that they encourage you to drink your whisky however you want and go for whatever hits the spot.
The four main go to Naked serves are Naked & Cherry, Naked Sour, Sherry Cherry Sling & Rob Roy, all delicious cocktails that taste amazing, and what l really enjoy about this whisky is how smooth and easy it is to drink on its own when stripped right down to the naked bare minimum.
As l mentioned previously Naked Grouse Whisky go hand in hand with what I’m all about as a human being, and having worked with their in-house team previously I was looking forward to working with them again as they really are a great bunch, so we came up with this plan that would showcase the beauty of Scotland in a way many people have only imagined and haven’t yet got the chance to enjoy.
Our idea was to get a see through pod set up in a remote area in the Scottish Highlands for the opportunity to make the most of the backdrop under the stars outdoors, or from the comfort of our cozy beds under the stars in our pod and to really immerse ourselves promoting what Naked the brand is all about whilst enjoying our whisky.
For me this idea was something most people can only imagine or dream of doing. Who hasn’t seen some shots of a glass pod in Finland or somewhere and thought “YES! I want to do this at home in Scotland! A pod, amazing views, visible sky above, whisky and laughter. What an epic weekend”. An alternative version of having some drinks and sharing stories around the camp fire with friends etc.
We had a stunning location in mind on the west coast of Scotland, Loch Na Sealga. Being on the west coast of Scotland is one of my favourite places to explore in my homeland, as the amount of white sandy clear water beaches, Scottish islands, mountains and wildlife is in abundance and it really is special place to adventure. Upon arriving at Gruinard Bay with my close friend Elliot and my wee companion Nacho my dog, we were greeted with a super warm welcome from the Naked Crew who had been busy setting up the Naked Pod.
I love the outdoors and I’m a mountain climber, that’s no secret and I’m someone who embraces all of the elements that l am faced with from ice cold frost to scorching sunny days. For me no matter the weather its important that we adapt ourselves to embrace these elements as it is what makes us human and we can’t stop everything because of the weather. Saying that and staying true to myself, we set off walking along Gruinard River roughly 10k to our Naked Pod on Loch na Sealga. We had grey skies, wind and lots of rain, so not exactly the perfect weather for a chilled out evening to sit and enjoy our whisky and the catch up that I had in mind. As we continued making our way to the pod the rain was coming down harder and harder with no sign of stopping, but there were definitely lots of beautiful rainbows on route.
As we got closer to Loch na Sealga we could finally see the pod, it was as if l was on a different planet with the stunning backdrop of the surrounding mountains hovering around us and it being completely immersed in the beauty of the Scottish natural landscape. As we went into the pod l instantly felt like a child again, jumping for excitement as if Santa had just came leaving all sorts of goodies behind. There were lots of delicious snacks, cosy blankets, two beds that looked like clouds to sleep on, lots of whisky and my favourite additional touch... the personalised dog bowl Naked had made for Nacho. That was very kind and I was appreciative of the team doing that. I was really chuffed with everything and couldn't quite understand or believe what l had done to deserve an opportunity like this.
As we sat down trying to chill out buzzing like bees with excitement, Henry Philip the Naked Grouse Brand Ambassador popped his head in and said “afternoon gents fancy a cocktail”, and was met with a reply of “Of course! Get in here Henry!”, It was good to have him join us. Henry sat down with us for around an hour, made us some delicious cocktails, shared some great laughs then left us and made his way back leaving us to enjoy the rest of our experience. I was sitting thinking WHAT?! did this all just happen? I was in this amazing pod and this day really was shaping up to be one of the coolest experiences of my life.
Whilst we sat there with our whisky and the cocktails Henry had showed us how to make, l started chatting with Elliot telling him that I had set out a few personal Naked Grouse challenges for myself so that l could really be at one with everything around me embracing life to the fullest!
My challenges were to drink a glass of whisky run up a mountain, drink a glass of whisky get naked and swim in the loch, drink a glass of whisky by the fire tell some stories, and end it with drinking a glass of whisky and watching the stars. As soon as l finished chatting to Elliot, the weather gods had clearly been listening in as the rain had stopped and the wind had died down. It was like they were saying put your money where your mouth is, let’s see you go for it. First challenge.
l instantly got up had a wee sip of whisky then made a quick jaunt up one of the surrounding mountains. After enjoying the views l made my way down with the next goal in mind to get naked and have a circulation boosting swim I.e. freezing my bits off getting in the loch. Sure enough me and Elliot had a wee sip of whisky together and made a splashing dash into Loch na Sealga. I couldn't help but laugh, Elliot was freezing even though l did tell him he should of ran up the mountain with me to warm himself up haha. We were both definitely refreshed after.
After that very refreshing and exhilaratingly hilarious time running into a cold loch, it was time to get the fire lit. Elliot got the fire going whilst l prepared some fresh cocktails with my new cocktail making skills (thanks Henry) and was making sure Nacho was all dry, fed and warm. Little naked Nacho. As the evening went on the stars finally came out and for me this was what really sealed the deal of an unforgettable experience in my life.
I cant thank the team at Naked Grouse enough, for me they did a truly special thing letting me be involved in this unique experience with both my close friend Elliot and my dog Nacho. I will always be a supporter of Naked not only because they are awesome people who work passionately behind the brand and create great product, but the fact they are constantly telling a story of live life, be who you are and want to be, embrace the elements, have a laugh, share stories, dont always take things so seriously, be free and ultimately if you enjoy having a whisky strip it down or dress it up however you please.
